Household Hazardous Waste and Reuse Center

The Household Hazardous Waste Facility, located at 16454 Orange Way, operates every Saturday from 8:00 am to 12:00 noon, except on major holiday weekends. Residents can drop off items like automotive fluids, fertilizers, household cleaners, pesticides, pool chemicals, and water-based paints. Additionally, the Reuse Center offers these items to residents at no charge, promoting reuse and reducing waste. Remember to bring a California Identification Card with a City of Fontana address to participate.
Mulch and Compost Giveaway
Enhancing soil health and conserving water are vital for sustainable landscaping. The city provides free mulch and compost to residents at the same location and hours as the Household Hazardous Waste Facility. Benefits of using mulch include adding organic matter, moderating soil temperature, preventing compaction, reducing erosion, minimizing weed growth, and slowing evaporation. To participate, bring a shovel, container, or tarp if transporting in an open truck bed or trailer, and be prepared to load the mulch yourself.
Stormwater Pollution Prevention
Preventing stormwater pollution is essential for protecting our waterways. Residents can help by using refuse, recycling, and green waste containers instead of littering; rinsing water-based paint brushes in the sink; avoiding the use of pesticides, herbicides, and fertilizers before storms; washing cars where runoff won’t reach the street; using a broom instead of a hose to clean driveways; picking up after pets; repairing vehicle leaks; and taking hazardous waste to the Household Hazardous Waste Collection Facility. Industrial Sustainability Standards
Fontana has implemented Industrial Commerce Center Sustainability Standards to balance public health with economic opportunities. These standards include landscape buffers for large warehouses adjacent to sensitive areas, idling restrictions for diesel engines, truck routing based on the city’s latest Truck Route Map, requirements for zero-emission operational equipment, designated parking for electric vehicles, and mandates for solar panels on large buildings. These measures aim to reduce environmental impact and promote sustainable industrial practices.
